The Granite State Clean Cities Coalition is a collaborative of over 70 public and private interests from all regions in New Hampshire. Coalition members support the goals of reducing dependence on foreign oil, and improving air quality, through the use of domestically produced, cleaner burning alternative fuels and other fuel reduction strategies.

What's New!

Clean Cities Annual Survey

Environmental Permitting, Regulations and Other Requirements Related to the Manufacture of Biodiesel

Why We Support These Goals:

  • More than 50% of the U.S. petroleum products are from foreign countries.
  • The transportation sector's dependence on petroleum exceeds 97%.
  • More than 50% of the air pollution in New Hampshire and the Northeast is generated by the transportation sector.

Alternative Fuel Vehicles that run on fuels such as electricity, natural gas, propane, biodiesel, ethanol and hydrogen can help reduce vehicle emissions, provide domestic economic benefits, and increase the energy security of the U.S. by reducing our dependence upon foreign sources of petroleum. The stability of our transportation future, and perhaps even the nation's economy, rests upon our ability to diversify the nation's fuel sources and types.

What is Clean Cities?

Clean Cities is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, which is designed to encourage the use of Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV's) and their supporting infrastructure throughout the nation. By encouraging AFV use, the Clean cities program will help achieve energy security and environmental quality goals at both the national and local levels. Unlike traditional command-and-control programs, the Clean Cities program takes a unique, voluntary approach to AFV development, working with coalitions of local stakeholders to help develop the AFV industry and integrate this development into larger planning processes.

The mission of the Clean Cities Program is to advance the nation's economic, environmental and energy security by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption.
